Occupational Accident Coverage
Helps protect contracted truckers and couriers during COVID-19
Insurance & COVID-19
While many industries have been affected by COVID-19, few workers are as crucial to keeping vital supply lines running as truck drivers and couriers.
Who would have predicted that the movement of emergency supplies to test and treat patients, and to deliver basic household supplies to help citizens maintain social distancing, would be one of the fastest-growing industries in 2020?
“There’s anywhere from a 40% to 60% increase of products being moved into grocery stores and warehouses since this started,” said Johnny Johnson, Managing Director for the New Mexico Trucking Association.
In order to enable drivers to speed up their deliveries, the total number of hours a driver can be on the road has been temporarily suspended. This puts additional pressure on drivers already working under stressful conditions.
While the Trucking and Courier industries are uniquely positioned to help in the pandemic containment effort, many of these vital drivers have no protection against workplace injuries as independent contractors. CAL Insurance can help.
Did you know Occupational Accident is widely accepted as a cost-effective alternative to Workers’ Compensation for the independent contractor? Occupational Accident coverage can provide Accident Medical, Accidental Death & Dismemberment, and Disability to keep these critical workers protected at a time when they need it most.
Please note that Workers’ Compensation and Occupational Accident will not cover injuries due to COVID-19. This is a community-acquired virus, so most carriers will not cover a condition acquired as a member of the general public.
Our carriers are reviewing claims on a case-by-case basis according to the statutory guidelines of each state, but the circumstances under which a COVID-19 claim would be covered are minimal. Most states have very specific requirements for establishing an occupational illness.
